The course is designed to clarify the role of the poolside assistant during school swimming lessons. It includes essential skills to support the swimming teacher in the event of an emergency. Those completing the training receive a certificate of competence recognised by Dudley which is valid for two years.
Those completing the course successfully will be issued with a Certificate of Competence recognised by Dudley. If the candidate does not complete all elements, including pool elements, a certificate will not be issued. Assessment is ongoing throughout the training session.
The course covers:
• Understanding the importance of Pool Operating Procedures and the role of an assistant on the poolside
• Assessment and management of the unconscious casualty
• Basic Life Support
• Recognising a bather in distress
• Using pool rescue equipment
• Supporting the swimming teacher in a pool emergency
• Assisting with the rescue and recovery of an unconscious casualty from the water
The course is open to anyone who assists with school/other programmed session of swimming. All candidates will be expected to enter shallow water (1 metre deep). However, there is no requirement to be able to swim

What Do I Need To Bring With Me?
Swim wear (essential), t-shirt, (optional – to be worn over swimwear in the pool area) towels, whistle, notepad and pen.
