COURSE AIM: This qualification is designed to teach learners to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: A fun and lively course which develops learner’s BSL signing and receptive skills which will allow learners to participate in simple conversations with Deaf people. The course will introduce you to the local Deaf community and you will learn more about the language and culture of Deaf people.
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS? The Level 1 award can be taken without any previous BSL experience at any level.
The Level 1 award consists of 3 units:
To achieve the Level 1 award candidates must complete 64 hours of taught sessions plus 26 hours of home study. In total the award will take 90 hours to complete.
Fees are split in to tuition fees and exam fees and must be paid at time of booking prior to the start of the course.

DO I NEED ANYTHING FOR THE FIRST CLASS? Learners may find it useful to have access to filming equipment which can be mobile phone, iPad or camcorder.

PROGRESSION: Once Level 1 is completed then learners can progress on to Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language.
